Introduction: Speak Chinese has been redesigned and recompiled according to the recently-made overall plan for short-term training in Chinese. It suits the level of those who already have a vocabulary one thousand words.
Speak Chinese is designed to meet the practical needs of foreigners studying and living in China. By combining functional methods with grammatical methods, it is divided into units that are composed of dialogues related to everyday situations. Through-out Speak Chinese, everyday expressions as well as grammatical structures are repeated in texts and exercises. The contents of the book proceed from easy to difficult levels step by step.
In order to help learners grasp the general rules of Chinese, the notes of each lesson do not only explain the meanings and usage of key words, but also provide a wider range of usage of some words and structures.
Speak Chinese was divided into two volumes, twenty lessons per volume. Each lesson consists of four parts: a text, new words, notes and exercises. The notes are with English translation. At the end of the book there is a complete vocabulary list. After the completion of the book, it passed through the piloting prove. According to the results we received during this period of trial, we modified some parts of the book. Comrade Kang Yuhua and Dai Huiben participated in the modification of the book.
